HAIRSTYLES FOR THICK HAIR

Having thick hair is hard to control, and it isn’t talked about enough. The two things I hate hearing the most are: “Just tie it up!” and “Brush it through!”. Girl, you don’t know the struggle. I wanted to share a few hairstyles that work for thick hair, without having to use damaging heat!
As I have mentioned in previous chapters, I have thick wavy hair. I am finally beginning to love my hair as it is (with a little help from The Ordinary, find out what and why in my chapter about The Ordinary), and have found ways to style it, but when I was younger I wouldn’t be caught dead without straight hair. Day after day I’d use my straighteners, causing so much harm to my hair. I thought that the only way to look pretty was to have straight hair, and I know that I'm not the only one that felt this way, but that is so wrong and I’m here to prove it to you!
I’m going to share 5 simple hairstyles that work really well for thick hair, and you can take my word for it because I have tried them all out! I found the styles on Pinterest, and under each image I will add the name of the owner (or the page them found it from, let me know if I make a mistake!), in case you wanted to check their pages out.
Bear in mind these are simple and easy, casual styles. I will be writing a chapter on classy hairstyles soon though, so stay tuned for that! If you subscribe (it’s free!), you’ll be the first to know when I post it!
1. HALF UP HALF DOWN

From The Hair Routine on Pinterest
This is such a pretty style that looks good with all hair types, and the best part is that it's super easy.
I always use cute accessories to tie my hair up, like claw clips or bows, but a simple hair tie always looks good, too. Sometimes I even plat random parts of my hair. There are so many ways to spice up this simple look and make it your own!
2. MESSY BUN

Image from Nesquik Boy on Pinterest
Noone can convince me that messy buns look better with thin straight hair than they do with thick curly hair. I'm not saying they look bad with straight hair, this style suits every hair type without a doubt! I wanted to focus on thick curly hair because noone talks about it enough.
Granted, it's harder to get your hair into that desired messy style, but once it's there: heaven. Honestly, just trust me on this one. Even if you think that it looks a little out of control, if you wear the right clothes and/or makeup, you're going to look amazing!
3. TWO BRAIDS

This look is amazing with thick hair! Don't worry about the fact that not all of your hair stays in place- it gives it an 'organised messy' look.
It's really easy to do (if you don't know how to get your braids like that, search up 'how to do a French braid').
4. MESSY UPDO

How fun does this look! I tried it and it was actually fun and easy to do. Check out this creator's profile, because there are a couple of other hair tutorials that you might enjoy!
I thought that this style was very late 90's early 2000's, so when I tried it out, I had to combine it with an early 2000's outfit. Honestly speaking though, it looks both classy and casual, so you have multiple clothing options to combine it with!
5. SUMMER HAIR
Video from gorda2.0 on Tik Tok
This style is perfect for the summer months. I have used this look a few times, and actually added a couple more little braids at the back. It's really simple and 'summery'! Again, this creator's feed is full of great and helpful hair tutorials.
You could even add a few beads and flowers to the look! Just thinking out loud here, there are so many opportunities with these looks!
So there you have it! I hope you enjoy these looks, and if you decide to try any out, share it with me! Comment your experience on here or use my private email (found in the 'contact' section)!
If you haven't yet, check out my other hair posts! I'll attach them at the bottom of this page. I try and write about things that I'd want to read about, but if you have any suggestions about what topics I should cover, please let me know!! I'd really appreciate it!
Thank you so much for reading this chapter, until next time!
